We believe that eyewear should be adapted to the individual and that products should be produced decentrally close to the consumer. Additive manufacturing allows both for customizing products at scale and is therefore a key enabler for mass customizations for the millions as well as for decentrally manufacturing products in the market on demand.
First Additive Scale is a joint venture of two global market leaders. We combined market leading competence in 3D printed eyewear as well as additive manufacturing. We understand 3D printing and eyewear like no one else in the world. We learned since 2015 the hard way what all can go wrong and what hurdles need to be overcome. Since 2015 YOU MAWO was closely co-opearating with various leading service providers globally and non of those were able to meet the needs and requirements. Therefore YOU MAWO embarked on a journey to ensure that mass customization of consumer products has a future and evaluated all available technologies in the market. Non of the commercially available technologies allows to meet the needs of eyewearbrands. Therefore YOU MAWO joined forces with AM GLOBAL to develop a new technology, focusing on bringing eyewear in the millions to the market. We are solely focusing on manufacturing eyewear and are dedicated to offer the best eyewear, most sustainably at an attractive price to the world.
We use our proprietary technology that is based on Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), an additive manufacturing (AM) technology that uses a laser as power source to sinter powdered material (typically nylon or polyamide), aiming the laser automatically at points in space defined by a 3D model, binding the material together to create a solid structure. Further we have developed an elaborative finishing process to turn a raw pieces into a premium consumer good. Our technology is based on custom machines, unique materials and custom elaborative software to ensure unheard quality and consistency that can be scaled around the globe.
The onboarding process consists of several steps which are selected by customer needs. I.e. design for AM adjustments, integrating hinges or choosing color and surface quality.
As we do not want to join in marketing blah blah, we are working with the Fraunhofer EMI on a full life cycle analysis, which compares our unique 3D printing production process with traditional manufacturing. Preliminary results are very positive. Stay tuned for the release of the report.

Additive Scale has set itself the goal of building up the eyewear market with additive manufacturing technology in a sustainable way. The companies YOU MAWO and AM GLOBAL have joined forces to combine their know-how and establish the technology on the market. Additive Scale is an independent company.

EOS is our technology partner for industrial 3D printing solutions. Additive Scale uses state-of-the-art industrial 3D printers from EOS with materials, parameter sets and services that enable high reliability and repeatability of the process.
Our first factory is based in Munich, Germany. This factory serves the local market but we can also supply products globally. Stay tuned to learn more about our global expansion plans.
